Will of God
by Dwight L. Moody

D. L. Moody

Call unto Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know -- Jeremiah 33:3.

William Carey said, "Expect great things of God; attempt great things for God." Carey saw God provide again and again in India.

D. L. Moody heard Henry Varley say, "The world has yet to see what God can do with and for and through and in a man who is fully and wholly consecrated to Him." Moody aid, "By God's grace, I'll be that man." God used him to rock two continents toward God. God is able to do anything He chooses to do with one person yielded to Him. What if it really is true that God wants to do something through you and me?

God knows what is best for us. He teaches us to trust Him one day at a time. God's direction includes His provision. God who gives water can choose to take it away. It is His sovereign right.

I like what Chuck Swindoll says, "To be used of God. Is there anything more encouraging, more fulfilling? Perhaps not, but there is something more basic: to meet with God. To linger in His presence, to shut out the noise of the city and, in quietness, give Him the praise He deserves. Before we engage ourselves in His work, let’s meet Him in His Word . . . in prayer . . . in worship" (Charles R. Swindoll, Quest for Character, Multnomah, Portland, OR, 1987, p. 38).

Henry Blackaby has suggested seven principles in Experiencing God.

  • God's at work all about us.
  • God pursues an intimate, personal love relationship with us.
  • God invites us to come and join Him in His work of building His kingdom.
  • God speaks to His people through the Holy Spirit, the Bible, prayer, circumstances and His church to reveal Himself and His will.
  • God's invitation always leads us to a crisis of belief that requires faith and obedience.
  • God's invitation leads to a decision and major adjustments in our lives.
  • When we obey God, we experience His provisions and His blessings as He works through us to do the impossible.

When God calls us to come and join Him, He will always provide. He knows our needs before we do, and He meets them, even during our times by a dry brook. He does it so His name will be honored and glorified.
